The Rev. Dr. Hyuk Cho joined us in ministry at West Point Grey United Church in August 2018. He brings rich pastoral experience from such various pastoral charges as Toronto Korean and churches in South Western and Central Ontario.
As a progressive theologian, he explores contemporary biblical scholarship to provide interpretation of scripture, reflective preaching, meaningful liturgy and compassionate pastoral care. He has a passion for exploring the mission of the church, care of creation, interfaith dialogue, welcoming diversity, intercultural ministry and reconciliation with First Nations.
Hyuk holds a B.Th (theology and philosophy), M.Div. (theology), MTS (theology) and Th. D. in constructive theology and missiology from Emmanuel College in the University of Toronto. His thesis can be found herehttps://tspace.library.utoronto.ca/handle/1807/77647. He has published academic papers on becoming an intercultural church, on mission and on interfaith dialogue. Recently he has contributed a chapter on the United Church of Canada’s mission beyond Canada in the upcoming textbook on Theology of the United Church of Canada. In his leisure time, he enjoys music, art and woodworking.
