Music is an integral component of our regular Sunday worship services. While each service is different, generally we sing hymns and responses, enjoy music during the Prelude, Offertory and Postlude, and are often treated to a special gift of music by a guest musician or one of our own musicians. There are two hymnals that we use on a regular basis: 'Voices United' and 'More Voices'.
We are fortunate to have both a Casavant pipe organ and a Grotrian grand piano. They are beautiful instruments, and coupled with the wonderful acoustics in the sanctuary, West Point Grey United Church is a great place to make music.
Just as important as our instruments are our people! Music Ministry is carried out by the following group of musicians:
- Director of Music - Eileen Padgett
- Adult Choir
- Various talented musicians in the congregation who offer their gifts of music during worship
- Guest musicians
WPGUC Adult Choir
Rehearsals are every Sunday morning from 9:30 am until 10:15 am. Special choral anthems are presented every few weeks, in addition to weekly leadership of hymns and service music. There are no auditions for choir members -- all are welcome! It is helpful if you can read music and have experience singing in choirs, but not required. If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact the music ministry at [email protected]
Ukuleles United: Everyone's favourite Ukuleles United will rehearse on the 1st Sunday of every month, following coffee time. The Ukulele group will be directed by Music Director Eileen Padgett for the 2019-2020 season.
Lily Choir (Chinese Choir): Beginning this October, the Lily Choir will rehearse the 3rd Sunday of every month following coffee time. The Lily Choir is a brand new musical offering at WPGUC. In each rehearsal, we will rehearse a hymn in Mandarin for presentation to the church during Sunday Worship.
WPGUC Instrumentalists - Sundays at 10:00am: Our instrumentalists are an important part of the WPGUC Music Ministry. If you play an instrument, and enjoy performing in a joyful and supportive atmosphere, please consider being one of our instrumentalists. Both regular and occasional musical contributions are appreciated. For more information, please contact Music Director Eileen Padgett at [email protected]
