Music is an integral component of our regular Sunday worship services. While each service is different, generally we sing hymns and responses, enjoy music during the Prelude, Offertory and Postlude, and are often treated to a special gift of music by a guest musician or one of our own musicians. There are two hymnals that we use on a regular basis: 'Voices United' and 'More Voices'.
We are fortunate to have both a Casavant pipe organ and a Grotrian grand piano. They are beautiful instruments, and coupled with the wonderful acoustics in the sanctuary, West Point Grey United Church is a great place to make music.
Just as important as our instruments are our people! Music Ministry is carried out by the following group of musicians:
- Director of Music - Eileen Padgett
- Tenor Section Leader - Nick Sommer
- Adult Choir
- Tone Chime Choir
- Various talented musicians in the congregation who offer their gifts of music during worship
- Guest musicians
Rehearsals are every Sunday morning from 9:30 am until 10:15 am. Special choral anthems are presented every few weeks, in addition to weekly leadership of hymns and service music. There are no auditions for choir members -- all are welcome! It is helpful if you can read music and have experience singing in choirs, but not required. If you are interested in joining the choir, please contact the music ministry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Tone Chime Choir
During special seasons in the church year, particularly Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter, we gather a group of people to play the tone chimes. This group does not meet regularly, but when we do, we have a lot of fun! All are welcome.
