Welcome to our Youth Minister - John Gary.

I am really excited to start off this new exciting ministry with all three of your congregations.  Bringing ideas and understanding other ways to connect with God has been apart of my life longer than I can remember.  After reading about this job posting I knew I was the right candidate.  I was baptised as an Anglican, I was confirmed United and my grand parents were baptised Presbyterian.  So, in ways I have connections in all three places.

Before working here, I spent four years working as a Staff Associate in youth ministry at Tsawwassen United Church.  During that I time I also filled in for the youth leader at South Arm United Church.  More recently I have working as a Science instructor in elementary schools around the lower mainland.  One of my more interesting church jobs, I worked for the United Church’s Westminster Presbytery as an Oral History ethnographer.

While working I also finished my degree.  In University my interest in people led to a degree in Anthropology/Archaeology.  This interest and my faith also brought me through the Middle East and Holy land.  I am looking forward to any chance to go back.

Travelling is another of my passions.  I have spent a few summers in Europe, one spent working on an organic farm in France.  My next travelling adventure I hope takes me to either India or Northwest Africa.

Now over the next few months I hope to share a lot more with all of you.  In return I look forward to hear about your stories.
